Liebster Blogger Recognition Award

Greetings, all! I have been super busy the last few weeks, but in the midst of all the chaos I received some great news.  Aniela from Punto di Stile nominated me for the Liebster Blogger Recognition Award! I’m so excited that she considered me for a nomination, and I want to thank her for it.

What is the Liebster Blogger Recognition Award?

Good question.  The Liebster Blogger Recognition Award is an international award that is passed from blogger to blogger as a means of supporting each others’ work. It helps promote fellow bloggers while receiving support for your own work. Being a pretty new blog, I’m honored to be considered for this award.

Blogging is difficult. It seems easy from an outside perspective, I think, but it requires so much work that readers never see. The writing part is only a small portion of what’s required. There’s the design, SEO work, photo shooting, photo editing, video making (if that’s part of it), social media, email design…the list goes on. Fellow bloggers understand the amount of time and effort this takes, and it’s important for us to support each other!

Liebster Blogger Recognition Award

Rules for the Liebster Blogger Recognition Award

The rules for the Liebster award are straightforward.  You must:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog
  • Write a post to show your award
  • Give a brief description of how your blog got started
  • Provide 2 pieces of advice to new bloggers
  • Select 15 other bloggers to nominate
  • Comment on each blog to let them know you nominated them and provide a link to your post

Pretty easy stuff, right? So, about my blog and how I got started.  I have wanted to start a beauty and lifestyle blog for a long time. Since I love beauty products, fitness trends, and health crazes so much, it seemed the natural choice for me.  I even purchased a different domain name three years ago and never did anything with it.  It just sat in my GoDaddy account until it expired.

And why didn’t I do anything?  This plays into my first piece of advice for new bloggers.  I didn’t do anything with it because I was afraid.  I was afraid of what people would think.  Afraid of how others would react to me putting my voice out there.  I was afraid that other people would think it was stupid, that I had no business doing what I was doing.

Liebster Blogger Recognition Award

Two pieces of advice.

So my first piece of advice is do not let fear control you.  This is something I struggle with daily, and not just in the blogosphere.  I am constantly having to remind myself that what other people think of me is none of my business. What is my business is making my life look like what I want it to be.  So I shush that voice every moment of every day and concentrate on doing what I love.

My second piece of advice is have patience.  When I first started I thought, “Oh, okay, so I’ll write, put up some posts, and probably be making at least $1,000 a month within six months.” Haaaahahahahahahahaha! Nope.  I’m sure it happens that way for some people, but it certainly has not gone that way for me.  And that’s okay! I love writing this blog.  I love trying different products and hacks and seeing how they work.  And I love writing about the weird things that go on in my life because, well, things get pretty strange.

Liebster Blogger Recognition Award

So now for my nominations.

For the Liebster Blogger Recognition Award, I nominate:

So that’s it, guys! Please check out the blogs listed above – these ladies spend so much time and effort on their work, and their blogs definitely reflect it.

Why I Started Taking Probiotics (And You Should, Too)

Okay, so first, what is a probiotic?  Well, per WebMD, “Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for your health, especially your digestive system.” In a nutshell, they help with tummy health.  When people talk about “good” bacteria, probiotics are what they are referring to.

Now, for a long time, I lived under the assumption that vitamins in general were unnecessary.  Theoretically, a person should be able to get all the nutrients and vitamins they need from food.

Then I had an epiphany.

I don’t eat anything even close to a normal diet.  Being a vegetarian, there are a lot of nutrients I’m sure I miss out on, namely iron.  At any random point in time, I’m sure I’m iron deficient.  And while I try to eat as well as I can, I’m kind of lazy when it comes to food.  I would rather eat Oreos for dinner than take a Sunday doing all my food prep for the week.  I tried meal prep.  It stuck for about a month and then I started feeling like I was a slave to my food.

While I love the idea of meal planning services, such as Blue Apron, cost efficiency is not their biggest selling point.  Since I’m working on a TV show and sustaining myself with background work, expensive stuff is not really an option.

Then there’s the fact that I have weird diet habits.

I’m usually called to set by 6:00 a.m., meaning I have to be up by 4:00.  Being that tired makes me lose my appetite.  I tend to skip lunch and try to keep my digestive system in a good mood while on set.  Nothing is worse than having a stomach/intestinal problem when sharing a bathroom with 20 strangers.

So I’ve lost nine pounds since I’ve been working the last two weeks. I know this isn’t necessarily happy, but it was nine pounds that I had available to lose since I’ve gained about 15 in the last couple months.

I started talking to a new friend I met on set who takes probiotics, and she said she started taking them when she went off of birth control.

She had spoken to a doctor who said that the pill kills off the good bacteria in your gut, and pretty much, it never naturally grows back on its own.  I’ve been on and off the pill for most of my adult life, and this information shocked me.  I know there’s fine print to all medication, but this is something I really wish had been outlined specifically for me.

Anyway, the other morning I woke up with a bad case of what is fondly referred to as “bubble gut,” which is just as pleasant as it sounds.  That day, I decided to run over to The Vitamin Shoppe and get myself a probiotic.  My friend had recommended Dr. Mercola’s brand, so that’s what I chose

This was around a week ago, and I’ve been feeling amazing ever since.  So what are the benefits of taking probiotics, other than the obvious?

Why I Started Taking Probiotics (And You Should, Too) - Beauty Chaos

Probiotics can boost your immune system.

By increasing levels of lymphocytes, which are a marker of immune response, probiotics help with immune health.  This is one of the main functions of a probiotic.

Probiotics can improve digestive function.

I feel like this is a “no duh” one, given everything I’ve just said, but probiotics help with digestive function.  Research has shown that probiotics can help people with irritable bowel syndrome and a range of intestinal problems, such as abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, cramps, and diarrhea.

Probiotics can help with urinary tract health.

This is another big one for me.  I’ve been plagued for most of my adult life with urinary tract infections, and let me tell you, they are no picnic.  To be honest, they’re bloody awful.  So anything I can do to help keep my UT happy is okay by me.

Probiotics can help with allergies.

The official jury is still out on this one, but some studies have shown that pregnant women who take probiotics while the child is in vitro increase the infant’s level of tissue inflammation, which is believed to trigger the immune system and reduce allergy instance.  I know, that sentence was confusing.  I had to read the article a couple of times myself, but apparently tissue inflammation, in this case, is a good thing.

Probiotics can help fight obesity.

I mean, they aren’t like a miracle cure or anything.  But one study showed that in a group of women trying to lose abdominal fat after having a baby, taking probiotic capsules helped reduce waist circumference.

Personally, probiotics just make me feel better overall.  I like feeling as though I have some sort of control over my health other than just taking medication when I feel ill.  Taking vitamins makes me feel proactive and a little more in control in a totally out of control world.  I mean, at least a little bit.

The chaos.

I feel it should be known that as I sit and write this, Paranormal Activity 4 is on in the background.  In honor of Halloween, I stream creepy movies a lot.  But not too creepy.  The PA franchise is just my right level of creep.  The movies have to be suspenseful enough to keep my interest, but not so scary that they ruin my life for a year (thanks, The Ring).

At one point on a day that I wasn’t feeling well I sat in bed, all day, and watched all the PA movies.  This is my second or third time through.  So I kind of know what’s coming?  But not enough to spoil the movie because I don’t know them that well.  And since I have to be up at 4:00 a.m. again tomorrow, I’m hoping I won’t scare myself into not being able to sleep tonight.  That’s something that adults don’t tell you when you’re growing up, that you don’t necessarily outgrow irrational fears.  Just another disappointment about adulthood.

When I was a kid, we lived in a house in the same town that my parents live in now, just a bit smaller.

The basement of that house creeped me out, and I’m convinced to that day that there was something strange about my closet.

What I didn’t know, however, because why would you tell a six year old this, was that my mother was creeped out by the basement, too.  My mom shared this revelation with me recently, and I was stunned to find out that my parents weren’t just impervious to all seemingly irrational fears, LOL.  But clearly, there was something going on with that house.

If you liked this post, I would love it if you would share on any social media! And please, pin stuff.  I love Pinterest and am on there all the time, so repins make my day.

Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer

I received a bottle of Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer in my Influenster box.  What is Influenster?  I’m glad you asked.  Influenster is a site where you can sign up, review products, and they send you free stuff.  In a nutshell.  There are levels and other things you can do as well, as with most things of this nature.

So I got my Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer for free.

And I’m so happy I did, because I probably would not have tried it otherwise.  I had seen the coral pink bottles in CVS and Ulta and passed them over.  I thought, “Something with such pretty packaging probably doesn’t work.” Right?  The person who yells the loudest usually has the least to say.

Even when I pulled the small purplish bottle out of the box, I kind of rolled my eyes.  But it WAS my very first box, after all. What was I expecting?

I made an effort to try everything in the Influenster box.

The Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer is amazing.  I sprayed it on my hair after towel drying my hair and could feel an almost immediate difference.  My hair was soft, and a wide-tooth comb ran easily through it.  Not an easy feat when it’s been almost six months since my last haircut.

The soft feel lasted as I blow dried my hair, and my hair was shiny and manageable.  I cannot stress enough how much I like this product.

Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer - Beauty Chaos

Another thing I love about the Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer is the scent.

The label stresses that argan oil is a key ingredient, and although I know argan oil doesn’t have a distinct smell, this company has used something akin to the Moroccan Oil formula.  It has a similar musky, yet sweet smell that I personally really like.

Like I said, I’m happy I gave this spray a try.  I ended up in line at Old Navy impulse buying the deep conditioner, and later used the Influenster coupon for $2 off any Eva NYC product at Ulta to buy a bottle of regular conditioner.

Ulta, at the lowest price, has Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer for $11.99. CVS carries it for $12.29, and Target has it for an even $12.00 They have a website where it’s available as well, and it gives the whole history of the company including why it’s named “Eva.”  If you’re weird like me and curious about that, I suggest checking it out.

And now for some of my chaos.

As I write this I am sitting in a giant building on the FOX studios lot in background holding.  “Extras” or “background” hang out here when we’re not needed in a scene.  And we’re not needed in scenes a lot.

When people think of Hollywood, I imagine they think it is glamorous.  Background work is the opposite of that.  There is a lot of hurry up and waiting.  Amazingly, simply sitting all day is taking quite a toll on my body.  I worked yesterday and feel as though I got thrown down a flight of stairs.  A lot of people make a living doing professional BG work. I do not think my body could take it. Maybe I would get used to it.

Did I mention I’m playing a stripper?

Oh, and I’m playing a stripper on a flight to Vegas.  It’s funny, I thought at some point I would age out of that kind of role; apparently, not yet.

Stripper Amy makeup.

Also, I find this kind of work takes its toll psychologically.  I’m in such close proximity to people who are living my dream, the people who got them there, and I’m there as human furniture.  It’s frustrating, and I don’t think I have the psychological stamina for it full time either.  Those that do…I envy them.  My life would be easier if I could turn off my brain.

I think about this subject a lot, that there are people in life who get to achieve their dreams, and many more people that don’t.  And I wonder which person I will get to be.  There’s a popular belief that if you don’t ever give up, you’ll eventually “get there.”  The cynic in me knows that’s not true. The optimist in me hopes against hope that it is.

In any case, I will continue pursuing all of my dreams – writing, acting, blogging, all of them – at least for now.  Sure, every once in a while I make a grand proclamation that I’ve had it and I’m going to give up, but I think everyone does that.  A time may come when I’m ready to throw in the towel, get a “real job,” and stop dreaming.  But today’s not that day.

Top 5 Reasons I Love Cardio Barre

As with most of my ideas, this one came to me in the shower.  I had just taken a Cardio Barre class, and I started thinking about the reasons that I love it.  And the reasons that I drive through LA traffic to get to it (seriously, though, so bad).  So as I was thinking about it I decided to come up with a list of the:

Top 5 Reasons I Love Cardio Barre
It makes me prettier.

I’m not saying it takes me from a 5 to a 10 or any nonsense like that.  But I can definitely see a difference in my face when I regularly take classes.  My skin looks clearer and more plump.  My eyes are brighter.  I look, in a word, younger, and I’m always on board for that, y’all.

Top 5 Reasons I Love Cardio Barre

It’s efficient.

This is a huge, huge, huge plus for me.  If you’re anything like me, you’ve put in hours and hours at the gym trying to run and stretch and lift your way to a better physique.  When I was a senior in college, I took around four hours of dance classes almost every day.  Four.  Hours.  And I smoked.  I would die today, I think.

The efficiency factor comes from combining both the cardio and the toning all into one neat little wrapper.  As far as I’m concerned, this is what sets the workout apart from other barre-based classes.  There’s usually a lot of toning and not enough cardio involved, so I’ve had to supplement when taking other classes.  But who wants to take class for an hour and then go running?  Better question: who would?

No one.  Crazy people.  Models.  I don’t know.  But the point for me is, what is the purpose of toning the muscles on your body if they’re covered in a layer of insulation that you’re not working off?  Remember the definition of insanity, folks. This class packs everything into one hour, and that’s it.  Best of all, I don’t feel like I have to go seven days a week.  If I make it to three, I feel like a champion.  Four, I might actually lose some weight.  Five and I’m having the pizza and the ice cream.

Top 5 Reasons I love Cardio Barre

It shapes your muscles in a specific way.

And that way is long and lean.  If you’re looking to bulk up, this class is probably not going to be your cup of tea.  Better to stay at the gym upping your poundage and drinking protein shakes.  Or however you bulk up; I’ve spent my life trying to do the opposite.

The use of low weights, specific ballet-inspired muscle sculpting moves, and good ol’ fashioned leg lifts produce results that I haven’t seen since my teen years.  Then, I was having a coach yell at me to work out.  Now I pay someone to yell at me to work out.  It really comes full circle, doesn’t it?  Seriously, though, the aerobics videos of the ’80s weren’t far off.  There are exercises that just simply work.

Top 5 Reasons I Love Cardio Barre
Me, pre class. Hi! I was going to take a post-class photo but I was too sweaty.
Being in a class makes me work harder.

I don’t know if it’s an internal sense of competition or the instructors picking on me, but I definitely work up more of a sweat and feel different when I’ve been in a class than when I stay home and do a DVD.  Plus, there’s variety.  Fitness class instructors, no matter what your venue of choice is, put work into planning those classes so that their students don’t get bored.  Doing the same DVD every day is great and will probably help, but it won’t give the same results as an in-the-flesh instructor.

It helps my mood.

Now, this is not specific to Cardio Barre, at least not for me.  As someone who has struggled with depression most of my life, I rely on exercise to help elevate my mood.  If I don’t get some sort of endorphin rush every day, I can feel it in my psyche.  And I usually need a good boost of cardio to get that rush.

So there it is, my ode to Cardio Barre.  Seriously, though, any form of exercise is better for you than nothing.  Even walking around the block every day gets blood pumping, fresh air in your lungs, and can help with a myriad of health issues.  So get out and sweat.

Top 5 Reasons I Love Cardio Barre
One reason: No pointe shoes
Random Thoughts for today.

Insomnia.  Jesus.  I am having the worst insomnia this week.  I don’t know if it’s PMS or the moon or what, but my body will not let me sleep.  It’s the yucky kind, too, where I get right to the verge of sleep and then I can’t quite drive over the cliff.  It’s driving me crazy.  Hopefully by this time next week I won’t be a drooling mess, but no promises.

And raise a glass for my poor husband.  He’s so patient.  I’m sure I’m insufferable right now due to lack of sleep and he’s been babying me.  He’s been cooking dinner and being really supportive.

Sephora September Play! Box

Greetings! Happy Sephora September Play! Box Day! The happiest day of the month. It’s kind of like Rex Manning Day, only for adults…and about makeup…and not sucky.  Okay, it’s nothing like Rex Manning Day.  And if you don’t know what Rex Manning Day is, please go watch ’90s classic Empire Records immediately and report back.

This month is doubly exciting because I made a video to accompany the post! It was nerve wracking, so I hope it’s not terrible.  It accompanies the launch of the new YouTube channel, and I welcome feedback.  Just not too harsh, please!

So what do we have in the Sephora September Play! Box?

First, the cute makeup pouch with “A Change of Face” on it.  I love these little pouches.  They’re so handy when you need to just throw a bunch of stuff together and go.  As I apply my makeup, I throw it into one of these bags and then just tuck the bag into my purse for the night.  Easy peasy.

Sephora Contour Eye Pencil 12HR Wear Waterproof

Guys, it’s like Sephora knows exactly what I want.  I would say they’ve bugged my house, but I don’t think I’ve said this out loud, so perhaps they’ve bugged my brain.  The thing is, I’m incapable of wearing black eyeliner without it getting all over my under eye area and making me look a) incredibly tired and b) kind of old.  I chalk it up to having oily skin.  But I’ve never tried a waterproof eyeliner, so I’m very excited to give this one a go.

Algenist POWER Recharging Night Pressed Serum

I had to go to the Sephora website to look up what a pressed serum was, and discovered that this stuff goes for $95 a pot.  See, the Sephora box is awesome.  I never would have purchased a full sized container of this because, what if I didn’t like it?  Then I’m out a hundred bucks.  This way, I get to try before I buy.

Serums have seriously become one of my favorite skincare products.  They do so much with so little.  This one promises a radiant and smooth complexion in 10 days, so I’m hoping there’s enough in this lil’ guy to get me to 10.

Sephora September Play Box

IGK Hot Girls Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner

I have to admit, I find this packaging odd.  There are photos of girls whipping their hair around and swimming.  And yes, while I would like to look like these girls, this packaging looks like it’s targeting men, TBH.  On the plus side, it is vegan and cruelty free, and promises to revive stressed hair.  Since my hair constantly takes a beating from hot styling tools, I welcome any product that can restore its shine and softness.

Belif – The True Cream Aqua Bomb

This one I had to look up as well, just because I’m unfamiliar with the company.  So this stuff is cool because it’s oil free, which is great for skin like mine which is oily and has large pores.  According to the Sephora website, in clinical tests subjects experienced a 70% increase in their skin’s hydration levels.  I wonder how they test that…

Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick in Amulet

Another waterproof wonder, this lipstick shade is described as a matte brick rose.  While I love the brick rose color, I’m personally nervous about a matte lipstick.  I don’t wear it very often, as it usually dries out my lips and leaves that weird rim around the edges when I eat or drink anything.  Still, the reviews are great, so I’m happy to try it out.

Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow

Y’all, I’m very, very happy to get this one.  Benefit’s big thing is brows these days, and although I haven’t visited their brow bar yet, I have been eyeing Gimme Brow for a while.  The packaging promises that it will volumize and tame brows while staying natural looking.  I’ve seen some pretty messed up brows before, and I usually stay away from any kind of fillers for that reason.  It would be just my luck that I’d leave the house thinking my brows looked amazing, then getting out into natural light and realizing I look like a mental patient.

That’s it for this month’s haul.  If you liked the review, please share it!  What do you guys think is the most promising product in here?  Leave me a comment or message me here!

Arbonne Grab Bag

One of the things I love most about being a blogger is the connections I make with people all over the world. Shortly after I launched Beauty Chaos, a woman named Holly Brown contacted me.  Holly is an Arbonne representative, and also has a lovely website, Living Like Lotus. Holly sent a message asking if I would like to try some Arbonne stuff out for Beauty Chaos. Ummmm, hello, freebies? Of course!

So here’s the awesome thing: Holly is from Peterborough, U.K. So after just launching my website, a new friend from across the globe reached out and got in touch.  This Internet thing, I tell ya, it’s simply amazing.

About a week later, my package arrived.

Not only was it addressed to my new business, it was packed to the gills with stuff.  And it had a customs declaration.  How cool is that?

Arbonne - Beauty Chaos

Now, onto the good stuff.

Included in my Arbonne Grab Bag was: A sampler pack of the Calm Skincare line; a sampler pack of RE9 Advanced Anti-Aging Skincare line; “It’s a Long Story” Mascara; FC5 Ultra Hydrating Hand Cream; an “It’s All in the Eyes” eye shadow sampler in a neutral palette; Perfecting Liquid Foundation & Makeup Primer; Smoothed Over Lipstick; and Glossed Over Lip Gloss. It was like I had died and gone to beauty heaven.

Arbonne has been around for almost 40 years.

Although I had a friend who was a rep when I was in my early 20s, that was the first I had ever heard of the company.  As I understand it, they function kind of like Avon, R+F, Mary Kay, etc., in that you have to get the products directly from their Independent Consultants.

Best of all Arbonne is vegan, gluten-free, and doesn’t test on animals.

Huge plus. Huge.  The company formulates without a whole mess of chemicals and contains no animal byproducts as well. The company is focused on sustainability, leaving a small carbon footprint, and has led the way in the green movement in the U.S., with their commitment to sustainability beginning all the way back in 1980.

Arbonne - Beauty Chaos

So, are their products any good?

In a word, yes, they are. I began my sampling with the Calm skincare line, which included the Gentle Daily Cleanser, Soothing Facial Serum, Gentle Daily Moisturizer, and Soothing Eye Gel.  Arbonne’s Calm line is designed for those with sensitive skin, as the name alludes to.  The key ingredients are aloe vera, cucumber, licorice, and chamomile, to name a few.

To be honest, this isn’t the line for me.  As I’ve stated in other posts, my skin is incredibly oily and can withstand a lot – I used rubbing alcohol for a time as a toner when I was in high school – so I need something with a little more kick. But I think this line would work well for someone with sensitive skin, as it did not make me break out.  Most products do.  And what struck me was how little of the product I needed with each use.  As Holly quipped when I told her this, “A dot does a lot!”  So my little sample bottles lasted about a week with twice a day use.

Next, I moved onto the RE9 Advanced Anti-Aging Skincare Line.  I’m at that weird point in my skincare life where I’m still breaking out, but having to fight wrinkles at the same time.  It’s magical, folks.  The RE9 line had so much stuff.  There were seven little bottles for me to try!  These included Smoothing Facial Cleanser, Regenerating Toner, Intensive Renewal Serum, Corrective Eye Cream, Night Repair Cream, Restorative Cream SPF20, and Extra Moisture Restorative Cream SPF 20.

Arbonne RE9 Advanced - Beauty Chaos

I love this line, especially the Intensive Renewal Serum.  Whatever the magic ingredient is, it worked immediately.  My skin felt more supple, smooth and firm.  I have rarely found products that work this quickly.  The Restorative Creams with SPF were very light, and break my skin out.  And the Night Repair Cream left my skin feeling well hydrated.  All in all, this is a line I will likely use again.

My name is Amy, and I am a hand lotion hoarder.

Not all hand lotion, mind you.  But whenever I stay in a hotel, I take the little bottles of lotion and put them in the cosmetic pocket of my purse.  Last time I cleaned it out, I believe there were five in there.  And I wonder why my purse weighs 10 pounds.

The Arbonne Ultra-Hydrating Hand Creme has been added to my pouch, and this is a great one.  It is very lightly perfumed and doesn’t feel greasy after application, both of which are pet peeves of mine when it comes to lotion.  I will definitely carry around a bottle of this with me in my purse from now on.

Onto the makeup portion of today’s show.

When it comes to mascara, I am of the more is better mentality.  If I were only allowed one cosmetic item, mascara would be it.  There’s something about how it transforms my face that wakes everything up.  I feel like I can leave the house wearing only mascara (and concealer.  and a little lip tint.  and maybe some blush.  Oh, who am I kidding?)

That said, I tend to go for the formulas that promise big, bold, voluminous lashes, like Diorshow or, one of my personal favorites, Too Faced Better-Than-Sex Mascara. So I was surprised by how much I liked Arbonne’s “It’s a Long Story” mascara.  Having been blessed with long lashes to begin with, I don’t usually look for lengthening formulas.  This mascara lengthens, but does so without looking like you’re wearing mascara.  It’s pretty cool.  I found myself putting it on every time I would run out of the house and needed a little pick me up, but didn’t want to put on a full face of makeup.

All the colors of the rainbow.

The cool thing about the samples Holly sent is that each one contains all the colors of the collection.  With the foundation, I got to try a couple of colors before finding my perfect shade (Fair/Pale for when I’ve been staying out of the sun diligently, Buff/Chamois when I’ve overindulged in my pool time a bit).  The Arbonne Perfecting Liquid Foundation offers nice, light coverage, perfect for everyday use.  Also included in the sampler pack was their makeup primer, which prepped my skin perfectly.

I’m not a huge lipstick wearer,  so given the choice between the lipstick and gloss, I would choose the gloss.  But the lipstick offers a large variety of shades for all skin tones, and does have a hydrating feel.  As I’ve said before, when I get nervous I bite my lip, so lipstick never lasts long on me.  But for a night out, I would definitely carry this one in my clutch.

The Glossed Over gloss is great, leaving shine without being sticky, and layering easily over the lipstick.  With the sampler pack I was able to try quite a few combos, with some great results.

Overall, Arbonne’s selection impressed me.  There are a few other products in the catalog Holly enclosed that I’m planning to try, including The Real Conceal concealer and Sheer Glow Highlighter.  They even have a line of nutritional products ranging from green powder to protein bars to vitamins.  And with their commitment to being cruelty free, vegan, and green, Arbonne stands out as a company that cares.

Got a line of products you’d like me to try? Thoughts on Arbonne?  Leave me a comment or message me here!

5 Beauty Treatments You Should Have Before Fall

  • By Guest Contributor Brigitte Evans

5 Beauty Treatments You Should Have Before FallWell, summer is slowly coming to an end, and with it our cozy dreams of long, warm vacations and lazing around the house without a care in the world. It’s time to focus on the fall, with its rainy skies, hot coffee and beautiful warm-toned colors of fallen leaves. Fall usually means back to school or work for the most of us. Thus, we want to make sure we begin the new season ready for the new challenges, looking better than we ever did before. Want to know how to start off fall in the best way possible and look like a stunning bombshell? Here’s a few secrets.

New hair for new you

5 Beauty Treatments You Should Have Before Fall

There’s nothing like a new haircut to update your look. Since fall is coming, a visit to the salon is a must. If you want, you can stick to just trimming the ends to give it a healthier appearance. But why not be bold and try something different? A sexy, voluminous lob is all the rage. You could go for more layers and volume, or even try a pixie cut. Talk to the hairdresser and let them give you tips about what kind of cut would suit your face shape. Another thing you definitely want to do is visit your colorist. Butterscotch blonde, honey tones, and pastel strands are popular. So try something new and fun to wow people around you.

Manicure for perfect hands

5 Beauty Treatments You Should Have Before Fall

Technically, you can do this all on your own. But there’s just something nice about going to a salon and letting the professionals take care of you. Get a pretty manicure and pick a fall-inspired nail polish color, like burgundy. Once that’s done, go home, and right before bed indulge in some easy hand care. Grab a pair of old cotton gloves, slather on a thick amount of hand cream, pull the gloves on and go to sleep. When you wake up, you’ll have gloriously soft, lush hands.

Most of us pay attention to our diet right before vacation, but as soon as we’re back home, we treat ourselves to a bit too much candy and greasy food. Unwanted pounds are a common issue, and we’re often too busy to figure everything out as we rush to readjust to the hectic September days. Worry not, because there are shortcuts you can take that provide excellent results and can help you shape up in no time. Cavitation treatments are non-invasive and effective, and less risky and costly than liposuction. Paired with a healthy diet and some cardio, you’ll be that va-va-voom bombshell that draws sighs all around her.

Multitasking skin treatment

The best thing about this is that you can do it at home. We want to look good, but using twenty different products every night to help us deal with our skin issues is just exhausting. That’s why finding the right treatments is critical, preferably ones that target more than one problem and ensure you have supple, amazing skin. Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Mask or similar products can help you get rid of wrinkles, dullness, and even help soothe your skin and give it a smoother appearance. DIY masks are also a good choice, and can give you incredible benefits without having to visit the salon or spend tons of money.

Clean up your brows

If you’ve done it before and are sure you can do it well, ust grab some tweezers and clean up your brows for a neat, fresh look. Or go to a salon and let them shape and pluck your brows to perfection. If your brows are too thin and sparse, microblading is all the rage these days. It will give you a fuller look, it’s semi-permanent, and it’s an easy way to get those perfect, Instagram-worthy eyebrows.

Beauty treatments help us feel good and beautiful. Whether it’s something as simple as doing a hand mask, or something more complicated like Botox, it’s on us to decide what we need. We hope these easy little tips help you so you may start this fall fresh, gorgeous and happy.
