Spring Clean Your Life: 15 Amazing Ways to Refresh Your Environment, Mind & Body

Spring is a time for new beginnings.  It’s a time for rebirth.  And it’s a time for cleaning house – not just literally, but in your life.  Spring is a great time to reevaluate old habits, patterns, and behaviors and see what’s still serving you and what you can get rid of.  Here are some of the ways that I’ll be spring cleaning this year.  Join me, won’t you? Spring is a time for new beginnings. It's a time for rebirth. And it's a time for cleaning house – not just literally, but in your life. Click To Tweet

Spring Cleaning Task #1

Clean up your phone.  You know those 8,000 apps you downloaded because they seemed like a great idea at the time but you’ve never used?  Get rid of them.  They’re taking up space in your phone and not doing you any good.  I literally have apps that I downloaded and then never touched.  Time to get rid of those.

Spring Cleaning Task #2

Change up your diet. I’m not a huge fan of “dieting,” per se, but I am a fan of a healthy eating overhaul.  And if you’re like me and are finding cookies increasingly creeping in and vegetables creeping out, it might be time to take a hard look at your diet and make some adjustments.  And what better time than the few months before bathing suit season? More green.  Less sugar.  Boom.

Spring Cleaning Task #3

Unsubscribe. My inbox is littered with emails that I never open.  Seriously.  I have no idea who is subscribing to all of these newsletters (hint: I think it’s me.)  But now is a great time to go through those and unsubscribe to any newsletters you don’t actually want to receive.

Spring Cleaning Task #4

Set up a budget. If you don’t have one already. Do you know how good it feels to get to the end of the month and know exactly how much money you’re going to have left over?  No? Maybe it’s time to set up a budget.  Just go to Microsoft Excel and search for “Budget.” Or look online, I’m sure there are tons of free templates available.

Spring Cleaning Task #5

Shred, shred, shred. Old documents, that is. And while you’re at it, go through your hard drive on your computer.  No doubt you’ll be shocked what’s lurking around on there.  Imagine all the free disk space! Not to mention space in your file cabinet.  Last time I did this I found documents from 2006.  Seriously.

Spring Cleaning Task #6

Unplug for a bit. Make sure you’re setting aside a good chunk of time every day to unplug and disconnect from your devices.  It’s important for your mental health.  Preferably do this before bed, that way you get the added bonus of not having blue light causing insomnia and other sleep problems.  Read a book.  A real one.

Spring Cleaning Task #7

Clean out your closet. So I know this one is actually a spring cleaning task, but it still applies.  Go through your closet and get rid of anything you haven’t worn in a year.  Or if you’re like me, maybe there’s a grace period of five years.  But that’s only because I work from home and only about 10 percent of my clothes get worn on a regular basis ;).  Seriously, though, make room in your closet! Then the universe will know you’re ready to attract new stuff.

Spring Cleaning Task #8

Evaluate your relationships. Friendships change as we change and grow, and sometimes those friendships are no longer healthy for us.  It’s okay to let those go.  Try to make a point to focus on those friendships that make you happy and are healthy for you.  Ditto with romantic relationships, if that’s something you’re struggling with.  Don’t stay with someone just because you’re comfortable.  Make sure you’re growing together. Don't stay with someone just because you're comfortable. Make sure you're growing together. Click To Tweet

Spring Cleaning Task #9

Clean. Out. Your. Damn. Car. My poor car takes so much abuse.  At any given moment, there are 20 half filled water bottles and about 50 receipts floating around in there.  So take a moment, appreciate the vehicle that gets you around safely, and clean it out.  Vacuum.  Get some upholstery cleaner.  If you can, take it to get detailed.  California is awesome in that when you go to a car wash, there is the option to have the car cleaned inside and out, and it doesn’t cost $200.  So do that.

Spring Cleaning Task #10

Focus in on you. Take a hot bath.  Meditate.  Do yoga.  Go for a hike.  See a therapist. Whatever it takes, get in your personal zone and make sure that you’re having “me” time.  Take time to clear your mind and get right with your head so you can be at the top of your game.

Spring Cleaning Task #11

Clean your social media. Unfollow people who don’t make sense to you anymore, whether that’s people you went to school with that you don’t really know anymore, celebrities you’ve outgrown, or just people who inspire bad feelings of jealousy or low self worth.  Get rid of all that stuff.  You can always re-follow later if you think you’ve gone overboard.  But clean house to begin with.  Who knows? Maybe you’ll discover that your Instagram had been hacked and someone added a bunch of random accounts for you to follow (like I did yesterday).

Spring Cleaning Task #12

Recommit to your fitness routine. Or if you haven’t committed to one, now’s the time.  Try the Couch 2 5K app. Sign up for a gym membership.  Try some new classes.  Make fitness a priority for yourself this spring.  It will keep stress at bay in addition to toning up your bod.

Spring Cleaning Task #13

Make your bed in the morning. Every morning.  This will help you start your day off on the right foot.  Since you’ve already accomplished one thing, you’ll be more inclined to accomplish more.

Spring Cleaning Task #14

Clean up your Photos. I cannot even count on two hands the number of photos of the inside of my pocket I have.  And they’re just taking up space on my phone! Or the 200 selfies I took before I got one that was semi-postable.  Go through and get rid of those.  You’ll have so much space to capture more memories!

Spring Cleaning Task #15

Literally take a garbage bag to your room. Or your office.  Wherever is causing you stress because the clutter is overwhelming.  Throw sh*t away. It’s okay.  You don’t have to keep everything. No one is keeping score.

These are just a few of the ways that you can “spring clean” your life.  I’ll definitely be trying a few of these out! They’ll help clean up not only your physical space, but your mental space as well!

Yes! Great minds think alike. I think Spring is such a good time for life resets. And damn. I need to clean my car. Life can get so crazy, but you’re right! It’s the little steps that help us pull things back together.

    1. Amy April 3, 2018 at 12:39 pm

Haha, my car is ALWAYS what suffers in the cleaning process. But it needs a good cleaning!

  2. Mikayla Jai April 3, 2018 at 12:43 pm

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH ALL OF THESE! Making my bed every morning, spending time on myself, and exercising are my favorites. It’s the little things that matter!!

    1. Amy April 3, 2018 at 2:37 pm

      I completely agree!

  3. Emily Fata, www.EmulatingEmily.com April 3, 2018 at 12:54 pm

I love the idea of not just doing a “spring clean” in your physical living space, but in your life as well! Super useful to really kickstart your year. <3

    1. Amy April 3, 2018 at 2:38 pm

Me too! I can’t wait to start putting some of these into practice 🙂

  4. Emily April 3, 2018 at 5:46 pm

I love the phone cleanup idea! My phone is full of so much stuff I don’t need, time to clean out!

    1. Amy April 3, 2018 at 6:51 pm

Right?! So many apps I don’t use.

  5. karen April 4, 2018 at 6:18 am

i love these ideas! We have cleaned our home and our diets so far!

    1. Amy April 4, 2018 at 9:13 am

That’s more progress than I’ve made!

  6. Becky April 4, 2018 at 7:36 am

Such helpful tips, especially the first one. I watched a Vox video a while back that inspired me. I deleted all the apps I don’t use and put all my social media in a folder so I have to actively go to it, rather than it being passive. It’s really helped me declutter!

    1. Amy April 4, 2018 at 9:14 am

That’s a great idea. I try to group mine into folders, but my phone is still loaded with apps I don’t use. This is my year to stop doing that 🙂

  7. Channon Gray April 4, 2018 at 9:21 am

Thanks for this one. I like the idea of cleaning out your emails! I have so many that need sorting and various people that I ought to unsubscribe from as they no longer suit my personal needs!

I’ve been writing about spring cleaning and simplifying life over on my blog lately. I’d love for you to check it out here:

I need to unsubscribe from so much stuff! I’m not even sure how I got on so many lists, to be honest.

  8. Ali Gilbert April 4, 2018 at 9:51 am

These are really great tips. I have started a few of them actually so I’m a little proud of myself. But I love the cleaning up my email tip… I need to do that next.

    1. Amy April 4, 2018 at 1:51 pm

ME TOO! I need to follow my own advice on this one for sure!

  9. Kandace April 4, 2018 at 10:50 am

Some of these things I have never considered. Going to clean out my car now!

Proud of you! That’s on my list for this weekend.

  10. Chelsea April 4, 2018 at 11:03 am

Oh my gosh I love this ALL. I love decluttering all aspects of my life often- it’s like totally recharging your batteries and makes you feel like you can take on the world again.

    1. Amy April 4, 2018 at 1:52 pm

Decluttering is one of my cure-for-all-ailments things. I think so much better in a clean environment!

  11. Nellwyn April 4, 2018 at 11:06 am

    1. Amy April 4, 2018 at 1:54 pm

I hear you! Waaaay too much junk food has snuck into mine over the winter. I need to start eating more veggies again.
