Spring is a time for new beginnings. It’s a time for rebirth. And it’s a time for cleaning house – not just literally, but in your life. Spring is a great time to reevaluate old habits, patterns, and behaviors and see what’s still serving you and what you can get rid of. Here are some of the ways that I’ll be spring cleaning this year. Join me, won’t you? Spring is a time for new beginnings. It's a time for rebirth. And it's a time for cleaning house – not just literally, but in your life. Click To Tweet
Spring Cleaning Task #1
Clean up your phone. You know those 8,000 apps you downloaded because they seemed like a great idea at the time but you’ve never used? Get rid of them. They’re taking up space in your phone and not doing you any good. I literally have apps that I downloaded and then never touched. Time to get rid of those.
Spring Cleaning Task #2
Change up your diet. I’m not a huge fan of “dieting,” per se, but I am a fan of a healthy eating overhaul. And if you’re like me and are finding cookies increasingly creeping in and vegetables creeping out, it might be time to take a hard look at your diet and make some adjustments. And what better time than the few months before bathing suit season? More green. Less sugar. Boom.
Spring Cleaning Task #3
Unsubscribe. My inbox is littered with emails that I never open. Seriously. I have no idea who is subscribing to all of these newsletters (hint: I think it’s me.) But now is a great time to go through those and unsubscribe to any newsletters you don’t actually want to receive.
Spring Cleaning Task #4
Set up a budget. If you don’t have one already. Do you know how good it feels to get to the end of the month and know exactly how much money you’re going to have left over? No? Maybe it’s time to set up a budget. Just go to Microsoft Excel and search for “Budget.” Or look online, I’m sure there are tons of free templates available.
Spring Cleaning Task #5
Shred, shred, shred. Old documents, that is. And while you’re at it, go through your hard drive on your computer. No doubt you’ll be shocked what’s lurking around on there. Imagine all the free disk space! Not to mention space in your file cabinet. Last time I did this I found documents from 2006. Seriously.
Spring Cleaning Task #6
Unplug for a bit. Make sure you’re setting aside a good chunk of time every day to unplug and disconnect from your devices. It’s important for your mental health. Preferably do this before bed, that way you get the added bonus of not having blue light causing insomnia and other sleep problems. Read a book. A real one.
Spring Cleaning Task #7
Clean out your closet. So I know this one is actually a spring cleaning task, but it still applies. Go through your closet and get rid of anything you haven’t worn in a year. Or if you’re like me, maybe there’s a grace period of five years. But that’s only because I work from home and only about 10 percent of my clothes get worn on a regular basis ;). Seriously, though, make room in your closet! Then the universe will know you’re ready to attract new stuff.
Spring Cleaning Task #8
Evaluate your relationships. Friendships change as we change and grow, and sometimes those friendships are no longer healthy for us. It’s okay to let those go. Try to make a point to focus on those friendships that make you happy and are healthy for you. Ditto with romantic relationships, if that’s something you’re struggling with. Don’t stay with someone just because you’re comfortable. Make sure you’re growing together. Don't stay with someone just because you're comfortable. Make sure you're growing together. Click To Tweet
Spring Cleaning Task #9
Clean. Out. Your. Damn. Car. My poor car takes so much abuse. At any given moment, there are 20 half filled water bottles and about 50 receipts floating around in there. So take a moment, appreciate the vehicle that gets you around safely, and clean it out. Vacuum. Get some upholstery cleaner. If you can, take it to get detailed. California is awesome in that when you go to a car wash, there is the option to have the car cleaned inside and out, and it doesn’t cost $200. So do that.
Spring Cleaning Task #10
Focus in on you. Take a hot bath. Meditate. Do yoga. Go for a hike. See a therapist. Whatever it takes, get in your personal zone and make sure that you’re having “me” time. Take time to clear your mind and get right with your head so you can be at the top of your game.
Spring Cleaning Task #11
Clean your social media. Unfollow people who don’t make sense to you anymore, whether that’s people you went to school with that you don’t really know anymore, celebrities you’ve outgrown, or just people who inspire bad feelings of jealousy or low self worth. Get rid of all that stuff. You can always re-follow later if you think you’ve gone overboard. But clean house to begin with. Who knows? Maybe you’ll discover that your Instagram had been hacked and someone added a bunch of random accounts for you to follow (like I did yesterday).
Spring Cleaning Task #12
Recommit to your fitness routine. Or if you haven’t committed to one, now’s the time. Try the Couch 2 5K app. Sign up for a gym membership. Try some new classes. Make fitness a priority for yourself this spring. It will keep stress at bay in addition to toning up your bod.
Spring Cleaning Task #13
Make your bed in the morning. Every morning. This will help you start your day off on the right foot. Since you’ve already accomplished one thing, you’ll be more inclined to accomplish more.
Spring Cleaning Task #14
Clean up your Photos. I cannot even count on two hands the number of photos of the inside of my pocket I have. And they’re just taking up space on my phone! Or the 200 selfies I took before I got one that was semi-postable. Go through and get rid of those. You’ll have so much space to capture more memories!
Spring Cleaning Task #15
Literally take a garbage bag to your room. Or your office. Wherever is causing you stress because the clutter is overwhelming. Throw sh*t away. It’s okay. You don’t have to keep everything. No one is keeping score.
These are just a few of the ways that you can “spring clean” your life. I’ll definitely be trying a few of these out! They’ll help clean up not only your physical space, but your mental space as well!
